Shingo over at Heisei Democracy came up with an idea to do Demo in a new pose. Paying homage to Konata of Lucky Star he asked me to Lucky Star-afy Demo. Here is the process of how she came to be!

First, I did a screen grab of the image that was going to be copied. DADADADADADADA!

Afterwards, I did a rough color pass in Photoshop to see if it would work. This helped with the over all visualization of the image. It served as a template and it gave me an idea of where things need to be customize to look like Demo.

The next step was clean-up. Imported the image into flash. I deal with flash everyday, but was never into it till recently. Then I started to notice the usefulness of the line tools with flash and decided that this project could be the right project to experiment with. What Shingo and I was concerned about was the clean look that vectorized art had. So, I went in, tapered some lines and changed the weight of it as well. This is also the stage where I made most of the changes to the hair, added the toga, and completed the hand which weren’t in the original image.

Into the color phase. I laid in some rough colors, messing with the overall look of the image. Once I figured out Demo’s actually color, I moved her into Photoshop.

In Photoshop, I added the reflections and made the gradient for the eyes. What I was confused with was the pupil. If you notice, the image of the inside pupil is a oval white gradient. It took me some time to figure out this part. What I eventually did was make two oval images, put it as a overlay, and filled it with the same gradient as the eyes. Added a little blur on the reflection so it wouldn’t look so clean and チャンチャン!We have the new Demo-tan banner.

Over at HD, Shingo went ahead and made a wallpaper so that you can see Demo every day!
